Undergraduate and Graduate Research Assistantships in
Computer-assisted Ecological Monitoring

Spring 2006

An undergraduate hourly and a graduate research assistantship is available for a project in computer-assisted environmental data gathering. Mobil web and PDA programs assist environmental data gatherers in forest, aquatic and arctic ecosystems. These hardware and software systems will help scientists and citizen scientists gather biotic and abiotic information in the field for central storage and dissemination to support policy making. Qualification requirements
Students should know basic web interfaces, perl CGI programming, and database design. Knowledge of PDA programming is a plus. Duties require an interest in environmental monitoring.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with end users for system design
• System integration and quality assurance
• Participate in field testing
• Code and technical user documentation
• Help organize a workshop on field-based data gathering
