TeleNature Tools Instructions
Download software required for TeleNature Search Engine (Microsoft Windows Instructions follow. Perl and TinyWeb are not needed for Mac OS10)
Downloading Perl
Download:
ActivePerl (from the website
http://www.activestate.com/Products/Download/Download.plex?id=ActivePerl, version: ActivePerl 5.8.8.817)
Installation Instruction
This may take a few minutes depending on your computer and internet connection speed
- Right click on the link and choose "save target as", then choose the folder where you want to store the
ActivePerl msi file. (say, c:\Perl ). The msi file should be named beginning with ActivePerl.
- Go to the folder where the ActivePerl msi file is stored and double click the file. On the pop-out window, click on "run" to start the installation procedure.
- Follow the wizard's instructions to install Perl on your computer.
Downloading Swish-e
Download:
Swish-e (from the website http://swish-e.org/download/index.html, version: swish-e-2.4.3)
Installation Instruction
- Right click on the link and choose "save target as", then choose the folder where you want to store the
Swish-e executable file. (say, c:\Swish-e ). The executable file should be named swish-e-2.4.3-win32.exe.
- Go to the folder where the Swish-e executable file is stored and double click the file. On the pop-out window, click on "run" to start the installation procedure.
- Follow the wizard's instructions to install Swish-e on your computer (we recommend you install Swish-e in the folder of C:\Program Files\SWISH-E).
Downloading Web Server
Download:
TinyWeb
Installation Instruction
- If you already have a Web Server on your computer you do not need to install TinyWeb and should skip this section. Mac OS10 already includes a Web Server.
- Right click on the link and choose "save target as", then choose the folder where you want to store the
TinyWeb package. (say, c:\tinyweb). The package file should be named tinyweb.zip
- Go to the folder where tinyweb.zip is stored and decompress the file. If you have installed WinZip,
you can right click on tinyweb.zip, choose "winzip->extract to here". If you have installed
WinRAR (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm), you can right click on tinyweb.zip and choose
"Extract Here".
- After the decompression, you'll get a folder called "tinyweb". Go into the folder, there should
be a folder called "www", this is the document root for the TinyWeb web server. There should be
an exe file called TINY.EXE. This is the web server. However, you should NOT directly run this exe file.
Instead, you should click on the tinybox.exe file. This is a front end of the web server.
- Double click on tinybox.exe to run the front end. You need to specify the document root for the
web server (e.g., "c:\tinyweb\www"). You need also specify the start directory (working directory) of
the web server (e.g., "c:\tinyweb"). Note this is where the web log files where be created. After that,
you can click on the "Start" button, which starts the TinyWeb server.
- You can open browser, type the URL "http://localhost" in the address. If you see "hello", congratulations,
your TinyWeb web server is running.
- When you close the tinybox window or click on the "Hide" button, the tinybox (and TinyWeb server) will
be still running. The tinybox icon should appear on the system tray (at bottom right of your screen). You
can double click the icon to show the tinybox window again.
- When you want to stop the tinyweb server, bring up the tinybox window and click "Stop" button. When you want
to stop tinybox, right click on the tinybox icon in the system tray and choose "Exit".
Instructions of using TeleNature Search Engine
- Run Tinyweb.
- Go to the following webpage http://localhost/config/config.html.
- Indicate the location of the swishe on your compuer and choose the volumes you would like to download.
- Then the TeleNature Search Engine can work.
